SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENT WORK

It’s always heartening to see how students focus in on a project they really care about.
With each of Classroom, Inc.’s Learning Environments, there are numerous opportunities
for students to create something unique and to feel successful—individually and within a team.

With the generous support of The Staten Island Foundation over the last
three years, students from six schools throughout the borough have
honed their literacy and math skills by becoming virtual interns in our
workplace simulations. Their special projects attest to their level of
engagement.

In Spring 2010, fifth graders at P.S. 35 worked on What's Up Magazine, our simulation of a print feature-and-
lifestyle magazine. Just like the magazine staff in the simulation, students collaborated to write, edit, illustrate,
design, lay out and publish this magazine. The knowledge they gained from research into contemporary health
and nutrition issues shows even in their written vocabulary.   Locavore!       Download We Are the World .
